Social Distancing Survival Mode

Racing thoughts, irritability, poor ability to sleep, frequent anger flare ups, muscle tension, these symptoms and a few more are some of the classic symptoms of anxiety. What’s there to be anxious about? Just about everything!

So if anxiety is driving your behavior how’s it affecting your relationships with those who live in your home and more importantly, what can you do about it?

Maintain routines which include eating, sleeping, exercising on a regular and predictable time schedule. Our brains like predictability and many find schedules to be calming. Another tip, maintain open communication with those you live with. Healthy communication focuses on expressing all levels of emotion, not just anger and irritation. When you’re irritable, dig into your emotions on a deeper level. What other emotions are you also experiencing besides the anger. Expressing the emotion of anger shouldn’t be your go-to emotion and may actually trigger unhelpful emotions in those who live with you. My final tip, instead of watching YouTube videos of funny animals, try watching a few videos on mindfulness exercises.
